… Jordan - Petra

Images from Petra taken during my photographic adventure around Jordan with Steve Davey as part of his photogaphy tours.

Petra is one the the great archaeological treasures of the world. It is an old Nabataean city which was carved into the multi-coloured sandstone in the mountains. It is a secluded amongst the steep rocky slopes and craggy mountain tops. Whilst it was the Nabataean capital, there is a strong Roman influence.

The site is approached through a narrow and deep gorge in the mountains (As-Siq) which dramatically emerges in front of the Treasury (Al-Khazneh). The site is huge and there are ongoing archaeological digs to discovery more about this ancient city. At the furthest point and after a length climb is the Monastery (Ad-Deir) which is equally stunning and slightly larger than the Treasury.
