… Jordan - Dana, Jerash & Madaba

Images from Dana, Jerash and Madaba taken during my photographic adventure around Jordan with Steve Davey as part of his photogaphy tours.

Along the King's Highway, there are a number of crusader castle like the ones at Shobak and Karak. Between these two castles is the Dana National Park, which is below the village and stretches along the valley. After Karak, we travelled along the edge of the Dead Sea which you can see the salt deposits along the coastline.

The ruins of the Roman city of Jerash are extensive and the best example of a Roman city that I have seen. The extent of the site is staggering especially the number of pillars that remain standing. This gives a great sense of what the Roman city must have been like.

Madaba is famous for its mosaics which include an amazing 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land in Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. The mosque (Masjid Isa al-Maseeh) is another beautiful and dominant building in the centre of the city. There are also amazing views from the bell tower of the Catholic Church of St John the Baptist.
