… Books about Town - London 2014

Every now and then, I start a significant personal project like the Elephant Pararde - London 2014. Often, these projects give me the opportunity to explore parts of London that I have not previously been to and are hidden away. This year, there are 50 beautiful open book shaped benches across London with a good photography friend, Emma Jones.

During our first outing, I have photographed the 11 book benches along Riverside and 12 book benches around Bloomsbury, each of which are shown in this gallery. Our second outing was one summer evening with the goal to photograph the 15 book benches around the City of London. These book bemnches are much closer together as the City of London is approximately a square mile and London's financial centre.

Our third and final outing was to Greenwich early on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning to capyure the last 12 book benches. Being early in the morning there were very few people about and the light was great - it was fantastic to be back in Greenwich Park.

Each of the book benches that I photographed so far are featured by a single image in this gallery with the latest images shown first.

The National Literacy Trust has worked with Wild in Art to bring Books about Town to the streets of London in summer 2014. Trails of benches shaped as open books, decorated by professional illustrators and local artists, are available for the public to enjoy.

It is be a unique opportunity to explore the capital’s literary connections, to enjoy art from some of the country’s top artists and to celebrate reading for enjoyment.
